Susie McDonald – Tender
What is your role?
Where do you work?
Tender Education & Arts. We are a charity based on the Holloway Road, London
What is your ‘Good Fight’?
Tender is fighting to end domestic abuse and sexual violence. We use drama and the arts to engage audiences (particularly young people) in positive conversations and explorations of the components of healthy relationships, the early warning signs of a relationship becoming abusive and unpicking the blame that is often attached to victims of violence. This is a difficult issue to talk about but our aim is to include everyone in the conversation – we can all be part of the solution. We want this issue to be seen as socially repugnant as wearing fur/drink driving/child abuse and we want people to feel optimistic about the opportunity to change the world and to enable people to live happy, violence-free lives.
What do you need to realise your goal?
A wish list would include:
An opportunity to talk to people in the corporate world about how we could pitch and deliver training to those settings
Profile – to have support to develop our strategy to reach new audiences and raise the profile of domestic abuse, particularly in the lives of young people.
Technology; our computers are dying on their feet so sourcing ‘newer-than-ours’ would be helpful.
